Marjorie Letson
Marjorie is celebrating an incredible 51 years with the district, including 23 years at Magee Middle School. At Magee, she has primarily taught sixth grade social studies, along with theater, gifted education, and now creative engineering. In her creative engineering classes, students dive into hands on, real world problem solving. “They work with science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics,” Marjorie explained. One popular project challenges students to build balsa wood structures that can hold hundreds of pounds. “They’ve learned to hold up to about 200 pounds in class, and in club the goal is up to 1,000 pounds. We’ve held over 950 pounds,” she said.
Marjorie is also deeply involved in Odyssey of the Mind, a global problem solving competition that blends engineering with creativity and performance. “It’s not just about the right answer, it’s about the most creative answer.” She believes the program prepares students for real world collaboration and innovation.
For Marjorie, Magee stands out because of its strong community and opportunities for students. “We have an amazing faculty that works together and supports each other,” she said. “I love the community and the variety of opportunities for students.”
Outside the classroom, she stays just as busy. “I teach childbirth classes at the hospital,” she shared, adding that she also enjoys time with her pets, including five dogs, a cat, and two rabbits.
